We need more housemates!!!

WANTED: Freelancers, startups, consultants or small businesses who need some office space.

If you are a small business, freelancer, consultant or a startup and you have out grown your back room but can’t quite afford a swish office of your own, the Silicon Beach house could be just what you need! Even though we seem to have attracted a number of developers and graphic designers, we are open to any body who is desk-bound by day.

One of the great things about having people with different skill sets is if you come across something that you can’t do, there is quite possibly someone there who can (Within reason - we don’t have any wood-workers, so asking questions about lathing may not get such a quick response). Personally, I would love to see an accountant and a lawyer join us, so I can pick their brains! We are all friendly, maybe a little talkative, but all in all it is a great place to work.

You can see the inside of the office below - but it is a second-floor open plan office with a small board-room table, kitchenette, a couple of couches and (obviously) some desks. It is fully furnished, so basically you just need to bring your computer. Whilst many of us just bring our laptops, a couple of us do leave desktopmachines there, and we all leave external monitors, so your stuff will be safe.

The beach house has a monitored alarm, ADSL connection, wireless, printer/copier/fax machine and water cooler all included in the rent (which is pretty darn reasonable), is REALLY close to the Perth train station (It’s across the road) and is basically slap-bang the middle of the city CBD. If you want more information regarding prices, please contact Nick and he can sign you up!.

If you are interested in coming and having a look, we are at

Level 2, 90 King St
Perth WA 6000

So what are you waiting for?

A welcome and a farewell

A new housemate has moved into the Silicon Beach House - Adrianne Barba, who is another talented designer. Adrianne has just established a new design company called bird.STUDIOS, providing a range of design, branding, copywriting, and illustration services. Apparently she is dying to design us a proper logo when things settle down for her - now that it’s published here we can hold her to it!

We have also bid Bronwen a sad farewell from the Silicon Beach House. Although her desk is still as messy as ever with all her stuff still here, she has assured me that she will be cleaning it out sometime in the near future. If not we might have an auction - any offers on a 20″ Apple Cinema Display Monitor?

Also we’ve still got plenty of desk space free that we need to fill. Contact Nick Randolph either via his contact form or on 0412 413 425 for further information.

Freelancer Friday February

Oh how I love alliteration. Especially on a leap year. This Friday, the 29th is the next installment of everyone’s favourite open house co-working day, Freelancer Friday. At this point I would make some smart-alec remark about how Freelance Fridays would only fall on a leap every x-number of years, however, I can’t be bothered working it out (I’m sure someone out there who will) so instead I’ll point you at the wiki, where you can put your name down. Hurry, time is limited.

Freelancer Friday wrap-up

Without the risk of reporting old news, the Freelancer Friday we have two Friday’s ago was awesome! We managed to fill all of the desks at the beach house and we have a fantastic spread of people ranging from a journalists to system administrators with the usual bunch of unkempt web designers and developers to keep others on their toes.

I don’t know what it is, but there is an awesome feeling that goes around the beachhouse when we have some many talented people working on there stuff, and from what everyone one that has come through has said, they thought it was awesome too. Of course, you can get that feeling that everyday, there are still some full time desks available - leave a comment if you want to come up and have a look around.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos (again), so you’ll have to have faith in it’s awesomeness (and remind me to get a freelance photographer in next time…)

The next one is scheduled for the 29rd of February (Oooh! Leap year day!). Go and sign up to http://groups.google.com/group/australian-freelancers to get updates closer to the date, and go and put your name on the Wiki.

The Wall’s Down and there are now Vacancies

Whilst most other accommodation is rapidly filling up for the festive season, the Silicon Beach House has a number of vacancies at the moment. With the recent expansion of the beach house due to the removal of the dividing wall and a number of former tenants who have moved on to bigger and better things, we now have space available in the beach house.  If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in being a tenant at the beach house then please contact us as soon as possible.

Getting to the Beach House

Dave has added Silicon Beach House to the Google Local Business Center, which means we get a more accurate map on Google.  He’s setup a redirection to the map, so giving directions is as easy as looking here at http://siliconbeachhouse.com/map.

New Housemate

Spoon MediaEveryone at the silicon beach house is pleased to welcome our new housemate — Ben Giles from Spoon Media.

Ben is currently stuck in the quarantine area with me, but with the walls coming down this weekend, by this time next week he will be allowed to socialise with the rest of the housemates.
